It's How You Think

The Reading Club

Foremost, a
Collective of Good People

The Reading Club was conceived as a new kind of private social club, an attempt to engineer a culture and community around conversation, reason, and humanity. We surround ourselves with people who love their work, whatever it may be. People who value mastery and go deep, not just wide.

The Club is not aligned with any particular profession or point of view. It isn't about wealth, status, or affiliation. Getting outside the sphere of like-mindedness is the key to improving one's intellectual and emotional well-being.

"A hand-selected membership of curious, articulate, interesting people who value conversation and are driven to learn."

A Glimpse Inside

Indoors, Outdoors,
Always Considered

A rooftop world of copper, candlelight, and open air, looking out over the city and the bay. We share just enough to set the scene. The rest is reserved for members.

Inside The Club

A Discreet and Intimate Place to Think, Eat, and Connect

Perched on the rooftop of the InterContinental in downtown San Diego, The Reading Club is a quiet place to work and a loud place to socialize, built around food, books, reflection, and relationships.

01

Restaurant & Bar

A members-only dining room and bar where conversation leads and exceptional food and drink follow. Where deals are discussed and friendships deepen.

02

The Library

A perpetual library with a curated selection of great reads, alongside a rare spirits and wine vault for those who appreciate the finer pours.

03

Rooftop Terrace

An outdoor terrace with sweeping bay and city views. Quiet spaces for reflection and open air for ideas that need room to breathe.

04

Meeting Rooms

Private meeting rooms for those who require discretion. Every conversation held here is held in confidence, among people who understand its value.

05

Hotel Privileges

Full access to the gym and pool at the InterContinental Hotel, because a considered life extends beyond the reading chair.

06

CH Network

Fringe benefits at all CH bars and restaurants. A network that moves with you through the city.

Philosophy

Rooted in the
Examined Life

Philosophically rooted in the great intellectual salons of history, The Reading Club is a living argument that the best kind of networking is simply becoming more interesting.

I

Mastery

We seek those who go deep, not collectors of titles, but true practitioners of their craft.

II

Discourse

Conversation is the currency of The Reading Club. We invest in it, protect it, and hold it as sacred.

III

Discretion

What is said in the Club remains in the Club. Privacy is not a feature, it is a founding principle.

IV

Character

Selection is about who you are, your curiosity, your integrity, your humanity.

Membership

By Invitation &
Committee Approval

Opening member selection is based upon Membership Committee approval. We do not select members by profession, net worth, or title. We select them by character.

We ask the questions no application typically dares to ask, because who you are is infinitely more interesting than what you do.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Prospective members are encouraged to apply thoughtfully.
